Hoover 43 - DC Calvin Coolidge 6

September 2, 2006

Hoover rolls early, often

NORTH CANTON Junior Phillip Howard scored three first-quarter touchdowns, helping North Canton Hoover to an easy victory over Coolidge High School, from Washington, D.C.

Howard scored on runs of 11, 8 and 1 yards in the first quarter, helping the Vikings win their home opener. Howard later scored on a 29-yard run, and junior Dan Rambacher scored on a 2-yard scamper.

Hoover also scored through the air, as Matt Wakulchik caught a 25-yard pass from Jared Wackerly.

Howard finished with 113 yards on 11 carries.

Hoover’s defense held Coolidge to 76 total yards.

Hoover’s reserves again saw plenty of action as Hertler rested his starters during an abbreviated second half.

Hoover senior captain, Jordan Bucar did not play due to a severe neck sprain incurred during the season opener against Canton Central Catholic. The coaching staff hopes he’ll be ready for the Louisville game next week.
