Austintown Fitch 14 - Hoover 7
October 7, 2011
Game Summary
An 11-yard run by Fitch quarterback Matt Futkos in the third quarter proved to be the deciding touchdown as the Falcons earned a 14-7 victory over Hoover.
Hoover’s final scoring opportunity came with two minutes left in the game, but quarterback Austin Appleby lobbed a desperation throw out of the back of the end zone as he scrambled from the Fitch defense on fourth-and-goal.
Despite outgaining Fitch, not turning the ball over and only punting once on the night, Hoover’s only touchdown came on Justin Smith’s 1-yard run.
Appleby completed 17 of 42 passes for 284 yards. Branden Race caught four passes for 107 yards and Austin Feinberg had five catches for 93 yards.
Futkos carried 21 times for 102 yards. He threw for 131 yards, including a 55-yard strike to Tyler Grover in the second quarter.
