Hoover 17 - Lake 14

NORTH CANTON The strong running of Drew Robinson helped the Vikings hold off the Blue Streaks to win at home.

Robinson ran the ball 41 times for a career-high 219 yards with one touchdown. He did his most important work over the final seven minutes of the game.

After Lake rallied from being down 17-0 midway through the third quarter, the Blue Streaks were unable to score a TD on a third straight possession. They turned the ball over on downs at the Hoover 31 with 6:54 left.

Robinson and Hoover’s offensive line made sure Lake never got the ball back. Robinson ran the ball on 11 of the first 12 plays, gaining 53 yards. He picked up five first downs along the way, twice converting third-and-short situations. His final carry, for 6 yards, put Hoover at the Lake 4 where the Vikings took a knee to end the game.

Hoover outgained Lake 378-311, in large part because of its 255-21 edge in rushing yards.

Hoover got a 32-yard field by Robby Smart to open the scoring. A 61-yard completion by Connor Ashby to Brock Henne set up a 1-yard TD run by Ryan Prusinowski for a 10-0 Hoover halftime lead.

It was 17-0 midway through the third after Zander Bugara’s interception led to Robinson scoring on a 3-yard run.

Lake made its comeback behind the throwing of Jake Eckels. He went 18-of-35 passing for 290 yards, as six receivers had at least two catches. Bryce Snow caught a team-high four passes for 77 yards, while Andrew Hammer added three catches for 63 yards. Drew DeGeorge also caught three passes (34 yards). Brady Logan (60 yards), Carson Miller (26 yards) and Ty Miller (10 yards) each had two receptions.

Eckels threw TD passes of 13 and 15 yards to Snow and DeGeorge, respectively to pull Lake within 17-14. When he hit Snow for 34 yards with 8:24 left, Lake was in Hoover territory, but the Vikings defense dug in and got the stop that set up the Robinson-led, game-ending drive.
