Zander Bugara’s returns, Luke Roach’s running key Hoover Vikings football to win No. 1

NORTH CANTON — The host Vikings scored the first 42 points of the night to cruise to their first win, beating Columbus Beechcroft 49-14 in Week 2 Friday night.

Zander Bugara returned the opening kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown. He returned an interception for a score to put Hoover up 21-0 entering the second quarter. 

The Vikings (1-1) ran for 275 yards as a team, led by Luke Roach’s 147 yards and one touchdown on only six carries. Cooper Westfall, Carson Dyrlund, Lucas Tindell and Drew Logan each added a TD run. 

Dyrlund, a sophomore, started at quarterback and was 5-of-8 passing for 62 yards and an interception. 

Drew Logan, Mike Shimek and Brady Sullivan combined for five sacks for Hoover. 

Diante Lathan caught four passes for 151 yards and a touchdown for Beechcroft (1-1). QB Omar Layne was 6-of-10 passing for 178 yards and the TD to Lathan while adding 56 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries.
