NORTH CANTON — Luke Roach ran for 143 yards and Carson Dyrlund accounted for three touchdowns as the defending Federal League champs held off GlenOak at Memorial Stadium in their league opener Friday night. 

Dyrlund ran for 94 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries and was 8-of-15 passing for 120 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Roach carried 29 times and scored once for Hoover (4-1, 1-0), which scored the first 20 points of the second half to stretch a 14-10 halftime lead to 34-10 early in the fourth quarter. 

Hoover’s Mason Ashby caught five passes for 66 yards and returned a kickoff 94 yards for a first-half touchdown. Zach Braucher caught a 43-yard TD pass from Dyrlund, also in the first half. 

Jamar Johnson ripped off touchdown runs of 69 and 37 yards in the fourth quarter to try to bring GlenOak (1-4, 0-2) back. Johnson finished with 129 yards on only six carries.

GlenOak sophomore QB Adrion Burt was 7-of-13 passing for 109 yards and a touchdown to his brother, Avantae, but the Vikings picked him off three times. Cole Anderson was 4-of-8 passing for 65 yards and a touchdown to Xavier Harris for GlenOak 

Avantae Burt finished with 121 yards rushing-receiving on 15 touches. Adrion Burt added 63 yards on 11 carries.
