WESTERVILLE — Despite outgaining their hosts 382-318 and committing no turnovers, the Hoover Vikings were unable to hold onto an early lead and Westerville South rallied to win a regional quarterfinal.

A touchdown run by Luke Griguolo and TD catch by Brady Sullivan helped sixth-seeded Hoover take a 14-7 lead in the second quarter. Third-seeded Westerville South scored the next 20 points, though, and hung on from there.

Carson Dyrlund, who threw the 6-yard TD pass to Sullivan, added a 1-yard TD run for the Vikings (8-4) in the fourth quarter, but they were unable to close the gap further.

Dyrlund threw for 278 yards and rushed for 33 yards on 15 carries to lead the Vikings along with receiver Zach Braucher. Braucher gained 195 yards on 10 catches. Mason Ashby added 54 yards on five catches.

Luke Roach ran for a team-high 63 yards on 14 carries.

Westerville South (10-1) did much of its damage on the ground, gaining 259 yards rushing on 45 carries.

Nasir Phillips led the way with 120 yards and two TDs on 17 carries. Ethan Hanna added 72 yards on 12 carries. Dequante Rhodes-Mckee ran for two TDs among his 61 yards on 13 carries. Westerville South QB Dominic Birtha hit 6-of-7 passes for 59 yards.
