Coach Baum has completed his sixth season as head coach of the North Canton Hoover varsity football program. Prior to coming to North Canton, coach Baum was the head football coach at Fredericktown High School. During his tenure at Fredericktown, Baum had a very successful five year run with a 40-16 record that included two 10-0 campaigns, two playoff berths and a state coach of the year honor. That included an unbeaten regular season in 2014 in which the Freddies went 11-1. Over the past three seasons, Coach Baum has led the Hoover Vikings to an 13 - 6 Federal League record, a Federal League Co-Championship in 2018 and a playoff qualifier in 2020.
In 2014, coach Baum, who led Fredericktown to an 11-1 season, was selected as Central All-District Coach of the Year by the Associated Press.
In 2010, coach Baum, who led the Fredericktown Freddies to a 10-0 regular season and to the state semifinals in his first season at the Knox County school, was selected as co-coach of the year in Division V by the Associated Press.
Prior to his stint in Knox County, coach Baum spent eight years as an assistant football coach at Madison Comprehensive.
An Urbana College graduate, Baum served as a member of the U.S. military in Iraq in 2005-2006.
